Friends and Food...

From 11 to 15 October we were in Bali for our church friends' wedding. It was nice going back home one last time this year before the delivery due in December.

Weekend in Bali

.: July 12-15, 2013 :.

My cousin got married! We went back to Bali to attend his wedding. Congratz to the newly weds. It seems like yesterday when me, my brother, my newly wedded cousin and his sister plus another one of our closest cousins played a video game in the middle of the night on a Balinese Silent Day. We giggled aloud, cooked fried rice while enduring my cousins' maid constant nagging to tell us to go to bed. That was, what, more than 15 years ago! My goodness, how time flies. Does that realization make you want to cherish every single minute of your life? To not take for granted every moment no matter how insignificant that might be? Because if there is one thing you cannot get back, it's time.

My dad's big brother brought this morning glory flower, well, he and dad share a same hobby, gardening. My uncle showed me a picture of morning glory well tended bush, it was so pretty, the flowers all bloomed. He's hoping that dad will plant them around the pool haha. I can't imagine how pretty it will be. One of the pictures above is Balinese suckling pig we had for lunch at Babi Guling Chandra in Denpasar. It's similar to that of the famous Ibu Oka suckling pig. I like it better coz we don't need to drive for an hour to go to Ubud to have an authentic suckling pig.

In Lombok

Words cannot express how excited I was to be back in Lombok again after 17 years! Lombok island is where my family lived in for more or less nine years before we moved to Bali when I was graduated from primary school. My fondest, carefree and happiest childhood's memories go back to this island, where my dad taught me how to ride a bike on an alley in front of our house, caught dragonflies with my brother wearing our matching superman clothes, got my first ever toy kitchenware set on Christmas morning, mom read a story for me and my brother every night, and many other memories. So how awesome it is that I have two fabulous islands I consider as home, haha.

Well, we had practically two days before my friends' wedding to re-explore Lombok. Fred was a first-timer to this island and I wanted him to try all the good food Lombok has to offer. Our family friend came to the villa where we stayed at and upon my request brought some local snack (if you can call that snack?) called 'Celorot'. My mom used to buy us these whenever she went for a grocery shopping in local wet market.  And the second picture is actually Ayam Taliwang, also a signature Lombok dish. Oh I know it doesn't look appetizing at all but believe me it tastes sooo good. We arrived in Lombok around 7 PM and it took us around two hours to order these ayam taliwang take away and get to the villa. So I was starving by that time, hence the bad picture, oh excuse, excuse.

In Bali

From April 27 til May 1st, we were in Bali, practically doing nothing other than sleeping, swimming and eating haha. This was my first trip after we found out we're expecting and people around us advised to keep it easy and don't do anything physically demanding. As much as I was thrilled about the Bali - Lombok trip, I was worried for weeks before our flight but thank God, during doctor appointment just a day before the trip, we could see the lil bean's heartbeat. So that was assuring in itself.

A week in Bali, meeting my family, my pet dog, were refreshing and it was nice not to worry about work-related matters. I was thankful at this 7th week pregnant, I didn't have nausea only slight dizziness at times so I still could eat my fave balinese mix rice and other good stuff.

We wanted to record everything we could about being pregnant and that include a photo each week. Oh I'm hoping I can stick with this idea without abandon it somewhere along the way.  Well, here's our 7th week photo at the backyard. The sonogram picture I'm holding was taken on April 26 and the baby's age is 6 week 1 day.

I don't think I could ever get enough of Pretty, my smart puppy.  She followed me everywhere and remember me even though I can only get to meet her twice in a year. And ohh... look at how she sleeps...

Bali Highlights

.: March 27-31, 2013 :.

This holiday turned out to be a beginning of a new chapter for us, unexpected but it's a greatest joy, no question. More to that in later posts :D We had so much fun in Bali together with our dear family friends, visited Villa Maya in Ubud, attacked plates of salted egg crabs, and had tons of laughter. But towards the end of our holiday, I got sick with fever as high as 38.5 degree and had to take medical leave from office for a week. It was worth all the fun though haha. So here are the highlights:

Sketches from Taiwan Trip

We went to Taiwan in mid May 2012 for a family trip. Love the food there and of course the night market. Almost all the district have their own night market, but the famous one is Shihlin Night Market. You can shop while snacking around :D

~ We went to the Red House in Ximen district where you can find many creative artists showcase their stuff. So if you want to find a unique gift or souvenir, Red House would be the right place to go. Mum bought some sand bottles as souvenirs. I really cannot imagine how patient is the guy who made those intricate details with colorful sands. ~

~ It was a 4 hour flight from Singapore to Taiwan, so what better way to spend time than sketching? ~

~ On the first day, we went to Taipei 101 and grandma seemed to be fascinated by the Teppanyaki cook show :D ~

~ Oh we also tried gold medal Taiwan beer recommended by my colleague. But still, Asahi beer remains number 1 in my list. ~

~ I had sooo much fun collecting stamps from Miniature Museum of Taiwan. They have these replicas of famous buildings and sceneries from all around the world and few have stamps. ~
